‘MUFTI’ CAR SOUGHT
Patrols In Waimairi The Waimairi County Council wants an unmarked traffic patrol car permanently stationed in the county. On the recommendation of its finance, traffic and by-laws committee the council decided to send its request to the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon). The council also decided to ask for a further four traffic officers in Waimairi because of the rapid growth of both traffic and population. The committee’s report said the chief traffic officer reported that 11 officers and one senior traffic officer were covering the district. One microwave speed detector was permanently in use in the area, and another was available at times. A “mufti” car often worked in the county. The County Clerk (Mr J. Reid) had reported that last year the council had asked the Minister of Transport for another three traffic officers. One had later been appointed.
