N.Z.B.C. Maori
Sir, —I, too, am dismayed that the N.Z.B.C. should flout the feelings of most Maoris and many pakehas, and backtrack on its decision to speak Maori names correctly. And all because of that awkward word, Paraparaumu! Well, the N.Z.B.C. would hardly ever have to say it at all, but for the airport; and admittedly, overseas people must be baffled by its pronunciation. Mrs McGibbon’s solution is sensible from all viewpoints—a new name for the airport.—Yours, etc. ELSIE LOCKE. March 15, 1967.
