Treated Pine As Export?
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) ADELAIDE, March 14. There were great prospects for Importing treated New Zealand Pinus radiata to South Australia, the leader of the New Zealand trade mission, Mr H. W. B. Patterson, said in Adelaide today. He was amplifying remarks made earlier at an Adelaide East Rotary Club luncheon. South Australia’s difficulty in getting railway sleepers had been pointed out to him during talks with the Premier, Mr Francis Walsh, on Monday, Mr Patterson said. The New Zealand treated product was admirably suited for this as well as it was for use in brick veneer houses. He said in Melbourne that there were definite prospects for a significant Increase in the export of New Zealand manufactured goods to Australia as a result of the trade mission. Mr Patterson said the mission had made a major breakthrough with the Australiawide chain of department stores, Myers. He said that while in Adelaide he learned that Myers were this year sending 36 buyers around the world on a major purchasing mission; not one of these was going to New Zealand. “A director of Myers told me the company had never sent buyers to New Zealand
because it did not realise the quality of New Zealand manufacturers. “After seeing our display he told me that buyers would certainly go to New Zealand in the future.”
