MILK 4c A PINT
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 14? Decimal currency prices for household milk and cream were announced today by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys). Cream prices will be reduced under the new currency from lOjd a quarter-pint to eight cents (9-3/5d) —and milk prices will vary slightly. Mr Taiboys said household milk —priced at present be-
tween 4|d and 5d a pint—would be four cents (4-4/sd). For householders who buy single pints from dairies at 5d a pint or whose tokens cost them 5s a dozen, the standard decimal price will represent a slight saving. Where milk tokens are now sold at the rate of 4s 9d a dozen the new price will be almost the same, but in other areas, where tokens are sold for 4s 6d a dozen, the new price will be slightly higher. Milk vendors are being advised to make up tokens for sale from July 10 in lots of 10 for 40 cents and 20 for 80 cents.
“The Government and the Milk Board are both convinced that the adoption of a standard price for milk for some 96 per cent of consumers is more satisfactory than the present differential rates,” Mr Taiboys said. “For the remainder, provision is being made for the Milk Board to charge higher prices where it is justified by costs.” An additional benefit of the new milk price is that fourcent milk tokens may be used to purchase cream—two tokens for a quarter-pint and four for a half-pint
