AHEAD OF SCHEDULE
Steel Mill In Pakistan (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) CITTAGONG (East Pakistan). The first steel mill built h. Pakistan’s 20 years of independence, now in trial production in Clttagong, will eventually produce 250,000 tons of steel a year. This represents a quarter of East Pakistan’s annual needs in the next 10 years. The £28,000,000 Japaneseaided project stands on a 172-acre site on the banks of the Kamaphuly river. . The mill has gone into production two months ahead of schedule, and will be formally opened by President Ayub Khan at the end of April. Its initial output will be 150,000 tons of the steel vitally needed by Pakistan’s expanding industries.
