Prisoners Make Jam

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter) CAIRO. Perfume and jam are being produced by prisoners in an Egyptian prison. It is part of a plan to train prisoners in work which will help them to integrate into society when they are released.

An olive farm in one prison yields olive oil and 200 tons of black and green olives, which are packed and sold to the public. Prison farms throughout Egypt produce about 7.700,000 pounds of vegetables.

Products now being made by prisoners for sale include dining-room and bedroom furniture, carpets, rugs, leather-wear, soap, textiles, shoes, toys and brooms.
