Red Cross Report
Members assisted with Meals on Wheels, helped to prepare the vegetables and visited patients at Burwood Hospital, said the annual report of the South Brighton Red Cross sub-centre. Members also visited Fitzgerald House, where they entertained residents to afternoon tea. Clothing and goods, including knitted rugs, had been sent to the centre. Quilts had been made from pieces of skins. A parcel of children’s clothing had been sent to the Red Cross in Fiji and a parcel of new jumpers and clothing to an adopted family in Austria.
Officers elected were: patroness, Mrs E. A. Cague; president, Mrs E. Stringer; vicepresidents, Mrs J. Stevens, Mrs J. Luxton, Mrs A. Trist; secretary, Mrs E. E. Madden; assistant secretary, Mrs R. E. Cutler; treasurer, Mrs D. V. Hay.
Matron Retiring.—The matron of the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s Home (Miss M. E. Gillies), will retire this month after three years as matron. The new matron (Mrs P. Curie), will take up her appointment on March 20.
