“Delays Could Slow Tourism” The delayed development of Auckland airport and the indefinite deferment of Paraparaumu was disturbing to all members of the aviation industry, said Mr A. I. R. Jamieson, the Christchurch Airport manager, in “Air News,” the airport authority’s monthly news sheet. He said that the traffic increases into Auckland over the next few years would cause considerable embarrassment to the airport authority and airlines alike, not to.mention the frustration to the passenger. “A lack of amenities could provide a tourist resistance with a resultant reduction in traffic which would be felt by all airports,” he said. “If, as we have been led to believe, tourism can be a major factor in the improvement of our overseas exchange position, surely this announcement can only delay the tourist boom and upset the faith of those who have invested in its advent,” said Mr Jamieson.
