New Grandstand The first stage of the new grandstand at the Addington Show Grounds will be ready for use at the Royal Show in November, the president of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association (Mr E. G. O. Rutherford) said at the association’s annual meeting yesterday. Work on the grandstand should be rapid from now on, he said, and some seating accommodation would be available during the Rugby League season. The First Church of Otago has arranged with the Globe Theatre to present a series of plays in the church. They will be directed by Patrie and Rosalie Carey. After the two hour performance the audience will be able to discuss the meaning and content of the play with the actors. Protection Money Two 13-year-old boys stole £842 so that they could pay protection money to the 14-year-old boss of a schoolboy gang, the Rochdale, Lancashire, juvenile court was told. The police said all but £1 had been recovered. Giving evidence, one of the boys said the gang leader threatened to thrash them if they did not steal for him.
