Oyster Fleet In Port Four Days

(New Zealand Press Association)

INVERCARGILL, March 14. Supplies of Foveaux Strait oysters are dwindling, with the Bluff oyster fleet being confined to port for the third consecutive day by rough weather.

The last day the 22-strong fleet dredged was on Friday. Saturday was the oystermen s day off. On Sunday and Monday, high’ winds whipped up big seas, over the oysterbeds. Conditions were also windy today. From February 15, when the oyster season opened, to the end of March, the oyster fleet dredged 12,330 sacks of oysters. Last year, when the weather was better, 15,894

sacks were dredged in the same time.
