Vintage Car Rally
The annual Christchurch to Brighton vintage car rally was held recently by the Canterbury branch of the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand. Rain made conditions unpleasant for competitors with open cars, but all 25 entrants completed the 25-mile journey. The oldest car taking part was a 1900 single-cylinder Wolseley, driven by Mr F. Burtenshaw, of Dunedin. The most recent model car participating was a 1915 Oakland, driven by Mr K. A. Steffenson, of Belfast. Most of the entrants came from Christchurch, but there were a few drivers from outside areas such as Culverden, Timaru, Dunedin and Winton. Both the New Brighton Businessmen’s Trophy and the Taylor Trophy, were won by D. A. Morley, who was driving a 1911 left-hand drive model T Ford.
