Three-Year Sealing Of Lindis Road
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, March 13. A letter received by the National Roads Board today from the Automobile Association of South Canterbury did not cause the board to speed up its programme for completing the sealing of the Lindis Pass road.
The total cost of the sealing is £300,000, of which £5OOO is scheduled to be spent this financial year, £43,350 next year, and £73,000 in 1968-69. The total length of road re. quiring sealing is 21.57 miles. The letter asked for detailed information on the sealing programme for the road, “particularly as it is carrying a large proportion of the north and south-bound traffic to and from Haast and Central Otago.” It mentioned the large amount of adverse comment from the public over the holiday period, and also commented that funds scheduled for spending in 1967-68 had been promoted to 1966-67 by the half-yearly review. The board’s secretary, Mr C. N. Johnson, Mid the board’s present priorities
were to extending the seal on State Highway 8 from n troOa ho famarmna north of Omarama and along State Highway 83 from east of Omarama. Seal extensions on the Lindis Pass road would follow, depending on the availability of funds.
