Extension Secured
(NZP.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BASLE (Switzerland), Mar. 13 Britain is believed to have secured an extension In Basle yesterday of the present International financial arrangements for supporting the pound sterling. Reliable sources said that central bankers from major Western countries agreed to the British request to continue the stand-by credit facilities which were negotiated last June to offset fluctuations in United Kingdom sterling balances. The sterling situation came up for review during the central bankers* regular monthly informal meeting at the Bank for International Settlements in Basie. An official announcement is expected in London today by the Bank of England, whose Governor, Sir Leslie O’Brien, headed the British party to this weekend’s exchange of views.
