FERRYMEAD CARNIVAL
Queen Contest Candidates The announcement on Friday of Miss E. Harrop as “Mias Progress” brings the number of candidates entered In the Ferrymead Queen Carnival to 15. Miss Harrop, who Is sponsored by the Canterbury Progress League, Is a 19-yearold data programmer at the University of Canterbury. Her campaign will be conducted by me Papanui Jaycees. Other candidates include: Miss B. Cornelius, aged 22, a Srivato secretary (sponsored y the South Christchurch Jaycees); Miss L. Stollery, aged 19, a freelance model (Christchurch Central Jaycees); Miss P. Ryan, aged 18, a commercial artist Riccarton, Hornby Jaycees); Miss K. McCormack, aged 19, a bank clerk (Canterbury Hotel Association); Miss J. Baker, a clerk (Addington Workshops); Mrs M. Ligeti, aged 23, a wages clerk (Empire Rubber Company); Miss A Clephane, aged 26, a laboratory assistant (Andersons, Ltd., engineers); Miss D. Williams, aged 19 (Marathon Rubber Company, where she works in the preparation room); Miss R. Leggett, aged 18, a clerk (Linwood Locomotive Shop); Miss F. Willman, aged 19, a secretary (Museum of Science and Industry); Miss S. A Shamock, aged 17, a toll operator (Woolston Sports Association); and Miss J. M. Whittaker, aged 17, an office clerk (Kaiapoi Petone Group Textiles, Ltd). The Hornby Workingmen’s Club and M. O’Brien and Company will also sponsor candidates.
The carnival will officially open with an opening fair at Ferrymead on Saturday, March .18, which will be followed by a ball at Cowles Stadium that evening. Other functions to be shared by all candidates will include a grand procession and boulevard day on Saturday, April 1.
