REPAIRING SHOES
No Rise In Prices Shoe repairers would maintain stable prices throughout the transition to decimal currency, the annual meeting of the South Island Master Footwear Repairers' Association held recently at 7>maru decided. The president of the association (Mr A. G. Lancaster) said in Christchurch yesterday the resolution was aimed to help in the present economic situation.
“Our trade has a long record of service and stable prices to consumers," he said. “In 1937 a man’s sole and heel repair was about half the price of a pair of shoes. Today it is less than one-third.” Mr Lancaster said most repairers charged 27s 6d for men’s sole and heel repairs and 21s 3d for women’s. The prices were competitive and although there had been recent increases in the cost of some materials the repair trade would hold the present charges as long as possible.
