Sydney Owners Buy Keep Smiling

The promising two-year-old pacer, Keep Smiling, has been sold on behalf of his Tinwald trainer, J. L. Ferguson, to Mr and Mrs W. Brodie, patrons of J. C. Caffyn’s Sydney stables. The sale is subject to a veterinary certificate of soundness.

Keep Smiling, a gelding by Robert Dillon from Modern Smile, was a winner at the recent Addington trials. He will contest the Second Two-year-old Stakes at Addington next Saturday and if he secures a start in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes on Easter Saturday Caffyn will return to New Zealand to drive him.

Keep Smiling was sold at a fo T-figure price, as was Thunderwise, which will also join Caffyn’s team. Thunderwise was sold on behalf of the Ashburton breeder-trainer, W. J. T. Lochhead. A three-year-old filly by Thunder On from Cloudy Horizon, she qualified at Ashburton on January 24. A bay colt by, Johnny Globe from Fairhall, offered on behalf of R. M. Smith, of Blenheim, at the sales on Thursday, has been sold at 500gns to C. A. Winter and Sons, of Belfast. He was passed in at 400gns. A filly by Robert Dillon from Reno’s Lass, offered on behalf of Mrs A. M. Forest and K. M. Langford, of Ashburton, has been bought for 350gns by the Sydney trainer, W. Picken.

P. W. Mills, of Auckland, as agent, has secured the brood mare, Lady Fortuna (Van Dieman-Fortuna), served by Bachelor Hanover, for ISOgns. She was passed in at auction at HOgns when offered on behalf of D. C. Davis, of Prebbleton.
