Post Office Charge Increases
The following Post
Office charge increases will become effective on April 1, 1967, according to an announcement made by the Postmaster-Gen-eral (Mr Scott). Inland Fragile Fee.—Fees will be increased from Is 3d and 2s 6d to 2s and 4s, after an increase in the cost of providing special handling for fragile parcels since the last adjustment in 1964. Inland and Overseas Advice of Delivery Fee.—The fee has been increased in the inland service from 6d for ordinary acknowledgement and 2s for acknowledgement by the addressee only to Is and 2s 6d respectively. The overseas fee for registered articles has been increased from 6d to Is. Inland Household Circulars and Sample Packets.—Postage has been increased from IJd to IJd for each circular and for sample packets not addressed from 2 }d to 4d for each packet. Inland Late Fee.—This is increased from 3d to 4d. Overseas Insurance Rates.— These have been amended from Is 2d for the first £l2 and 6d for each additional £l2 to a new scale of 2s for
the first £24 and 6d for each additional £l2.
Embossed Envelopes.—The selling price for envelopes already embossed with postage is increased from 4)d to sd, the first rise in charge since 1952.
Registered Envelopes. With the increase in the registration fee, the charge for envelopes already bearing registration fee and postage will rise from Is 6d to 2s.
Stamp Coils.—Coils of stamps, which have been on sale for 4d a coil, adding the cost of postage, will now be increased to 2s, adding the cost of postage. The production costs of these coils have risen to 22.46 s each. Reprints of the various charts and booklets showing postal rates are being undertaken and supplies should be available soon. Fuller details of these charges, and any not listed, may be obtained on application to the Post Office.
