Barbados Beaten, Day Spare
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) BRIDGETOWN. The Rest of the World XI beat Barbados by 262 runs on Saturday with more than a day to spare.
Barbados collapsed for the second time in the five-day match, which was staged to mark the island’s independence.
Chasing the massive total of 501 for victory Barbados, which resumed at 65 for one, lost its last nine second innings wickets for the addition of 173 and was all out for 238. Barbados ran into trouble before lunch against the offspin of a fellow West Indian, L. S. Gibbs, of Guyana, and the leg-spin of England’s R. W. Barber. It never recovered and the Australians, G. D. McKenzie and N. J. Hawke, pressed home the advantage with the second new ball. The only real batting successes were fighting innings of 48 from S. M. Nurse and a hurricane 46 by the young wicket-keeper, A. Taylor. REST OF THE WORLD First Innings .. 308 Second Innings R. W. Barter, b Hall .. 6 W. M. Lawry, c Taylor, b Griffith . 33 R. B.
