Cricket Title To Old Boys

High School Old Boys, the competition leader when the last round of senior cricket began on March 3, became the winner of the 1966-67 senior championship when, because of rain, there was no play on Saturday except for 15 overs bowled at Sydenham Park.

West-University and Ricearton share second place, one point behind High School Old Boys.

Scores for the final round were:—

High School Old Boys 292 drew with West University, 55 for two. Lancaster Park 195 for seven decl. beat Riccarton 149 and 14 for no wickets on the first innings. Sydenham 240 beat St Albans 75 for six decl. and 26 for two on the first innings.

Lancaster Park gained bonus points against Riecarton.

Competition points are:— High Schol Old Boys 47, Riccarton and West University

46, Lancaster Park 43, St. Albans 39, Sydenham 31. No bonus points were awarded in the St. AlbansSydenham match. The St. Albans' declaration deprived both teams of bonus points and Sydenham of the opportunity to gain 12 points and thus share bottom place with St Albans. If this was the reason behind the declaration it was, although within the rules, hardly within the spirit of the game. Under the rules of the Canterbury Cricket Association Sydenham, the bottom team, will be relegated to the Senior B grade, its place in the Senior A being taken by the Senior B grade winner, Old Collegians A.
