Svetlana Stalin In Switzerland

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—CopyrigM) GENEVA, March 12. Svetlana Stalin, the daughter of the former Soviet leader, was whisked away to a secluded hideaway yesterday after Switzer-. land gave her permission to stay in the country temporarily.

Her high-speed dash by car from Geneva Airport climaxed a three-day cloak-and-dagger journey from New Delhi via Rome. She travelled under her mother's maiden name, Allilueva.

A Swiss Government statement said that she did not wish to return to the Soviet Union.

Swiss officials would not reveal where she was staying, but unconfirmed reports in Berne said that she intended to stay in the Bernese Oberland, an alpine tourist resort in central Switzerland Miss Stalin left the Soviet Union to fly to New Delhi with the ashes of an Indian Communist, Mr Brijesh Singh, who is believed to have been her husband. She was reported to have flown to Rome from New Delhi on Wednesday after

staying with Mr Singh’s family. The Indian Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi, said today that she met Stalin’s daughter Svetlana briefly while she was in India.

In Washington, informed sources said that the United States Administration decided against granting Miss Stalin asylum because her presence in the United States would seriously interfere with attempts to improve U.KSoviet relations.
