W.C.T.U. AGAINST ANZAC OPENING
(New Zealand Press Association) NAPIER, March 12. The national convention of the New Zealand Women’s Christian Temperance Union is to urge the Government not to allow the opening of hotel bars on Anzac Day.
The Saturday session of the convention in Napier passed a resolution urging the Government to retain what it terms “the sacred nature of Anzac Day as it was originally intended” and not to allow hotel bars to be opened on that day. Another resolution requests that there be an option to vote for the status quo (6 o’clock closing) in the forthcoming referendum on hours for the sale of liquor. Fruit Juice The convention also passed a resolution urging the viticultural advisory committee to encourage the production of grape juice. The convention decided
i that there was a considerable I demand for the drink and • that the demand should be t stimulated by advertising. ■ The convention is also re- ’ questing the Government to ' ensure that an ample supply 1 of fruit juice is made available at Government functions ! and that “prominence be ! given to its availability.”
