A CONTRAST.—These two bundles of wheat tell a story. They are off a trial area at the Winchmore irrigation research station where in the past season a comparison has been made of growing wheat under irrigation and under dryland conditions. These two bundles come off the same area of ground—the one on the right off a dryland plot and that on the left off an irrigated area. Even in the past most favourable season for growing wheat irrigation has been responsible for about a 20 per cent lift in yields.
