DISPLAYING DIVIDENDS
Directive To Clubs
The executive committee ot the New Zealand Racing Conference has instructed all totalizator clubs that totalisator barometers and other dividend Indicators must remain visible and unchanged from the closing ot the machine until the dividends for the race have been posted. This action was after consultations with the chief totalisator inspector of the Internal Affairs Department, who said that frequent complaints had been received from racegoers. Some of these had reached the Ombudsman, who bad made investigations into the standard of dividend indication. While he did not make any specific recommendation regarding the complaints, he asked the department to ensure that supervisory precautions were reasonably sufficient to eliminate the possibility of Incorrect dividends being displayed on totalisator barometers.
Jockeys Not Riding Work
The Auckland Thoroughbred Owners* and Trainers’ Association, which complained lb August about the lack of licensed jockeys making themselves available to ride track work at the various training centres, has told the Executive of the Racing Conference that steps then taken to correct the position had not had the desired effect. The association said the position had not improved and with winter approaching trainers would be faced with an almost Impossible task to gst their teams worked.
The executive has repeated Its September instruction to stipendiary stewards that district committees must be informed of any jockey not regularly attending a track to ride work, which is a condition of his licence.
