GYMKHANA AT LOBURN
Varied Programme For Today
A widely-varied programme of events has been arranged for the horse and pony show and gymkhana which will be held in the picturesque Loburn Domain today in aid of a new pavilion for the domain. The original meaning of “gymkhana” has been extended somewhat, as the show classes alone have attracted more than 150 entries, in spite of a clash of dates with the Cheviot and Mayfield shows.
Among entertainments to be provided will be several go-kart races, driving competitions, and sheaf tossing. The champion Lees Valley tug-of-war team will compete in a competition as preparation for the New Zealand championship later. Several other teams have entered this event, which will be held on truck decks to ensure a good view.
The Loburn Domain New Pavilion Committee has arranged a continuous programme from 9 a-m. onwards. To facilitate the programme, the domain has been divided in two, with stalls and sideshows down the centre. Notable among the horse entries is the New Zealand Royal Show champion pony. Glitter, while among the hacks will be this season’s champion pony, Morning Spirit, Te Kahu, and Ramero. Mr and Mrs A. F. Cunningham of Christchurch will judge the horse and pony events.
