More Sweets Eaten
<N.Z. Preu Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 10. The principal of Rongotai College (Mr N. A. Mackay) last night expressed concern at the Increased consumption of sweets and cakes by pupils since the removal of the milk supply to schools.
He told the college board it was not generally realised how much boys of secondary school age needed mid-morning nourishment “During these years a boy usually doubles his weight and does more strenuous exercise than at
any other time in his life.”
The old-fashioned play lunch had disappeared because the boys were satisfied after half a pint of milk. But since the supply had stopped boys had brought cakes from home and bought sweets from the tuck shop.
