1967 UPHAM SCHOLAR
The Upham Scholarship for 1967 has been awarded to Mr Richard Edwin Falloon, of Timaru. Mr Falloon attended Cashmere High School in 1961 and Timaru Boys’ High School from 1962 until 1966. He was head prefect of his school and Regimental Sergeant-Major of the Cadet Corps. He captained the school’s first XV, played under-20 representative Rugby. and was successful in school track athletics. His interest in public speaking led to a second placing in the Anthony Eden Cup regional finals. In Boys’ Brigade activities he became the holder of the Queen’s Badge. He will study for a bachelor of agricultural science degree at Lincoln College.
The 60 applicants for the scholarship were interviewed by the trustees, Mr C. H. Upham, Mr A. I. Cottrell, Dr. M. M. Burns, Brigadier J. T. Burrows and Mr J. L. Will. The all-round excellence of the applicants, made the choice of an Upham Scholar a difficult one, the trustees said.
