RACING Carester Is Fit For Motukarara Sprint

The North Island-owned Carester has form and fitness to make her a strong contender for Kinloch Handicap honours at the Banks Peninsula meeting on Saturday.

She has joined R. Preece’s Riccarton stable since the Westport meeting, where she won easily against the milers in smart time, and she impressed at Riccarton yesterday by running half a mile on the trial grass in 49 3.ssec.

Mr J. S. Robinson’s Red Jester mare was ridden by A. H. Eastwood in yesterday’s gallop.

Carester is top weight In the second leg of the T.A.B. double at Motukarara. She has 8-10 and is 81b above Newbrook, which should be one of the improvers in the field.

Newbrook ran out five furlongs solidly to win a trial from the starting gate on the outside of the course proper yesterday. Newbrook, ridden by W. H. Beck, finished clear of Pharasal (A. J. Stokes), which was going nicely just ahead of Anasiwa (G. Gullery). Talic came next in a gap of a length and a half and Cosmotrix was fifth, dropping out close to home after being close to the lead for a time early. TSUNAMI WINS An earlier barrier trial was won by Tsunami (G. Gullery), a light-weight in the Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara. Tsunami made most of the running and finished clear of Royal Villain (F. H. Skelton).

Matea, ridden by W. H. Beck, was third. The stablemates. Status Symbol (A. Reuben) and Conway Stewart (J. Kerkvliet), finished the third heat on terms well clear of the others, which were eased. Conway Stewart has shaped well lately, and may reach one of the places in the Bradley Handicap, for two-year-olds, at the Banks Peninsula meeting. Royal Encounter (M. King) did well to run a mile in Imin 43sec on the trial grass as be was easing near the end. He went with his stablemate, Running Scared (G. Gullery), which finished a length and a half back. P H. Jones’s pair ran the opening half strongly in 51 3-ssec. FAST SPRINT Sleeky Fox did one of the best gallops on the plough. With the light-weight, L. Jackson, up, he sprinted seven furlongs in Imin 29 4-ssec, always staying clear of Gold Wood (A. J. Stokes). Sleeky Fox cut out the opening halfmile in 49 2-ssec. Sir Llmond (D. Tucker) led Retinue (N. Cowles) by half a length, ending seven fur-

longs in Imin 31 4-ssec, the last three in 37 l-ssec. Master Sheeny (N. Cowles) and We’ll Find Out (L. Jackson) were up to speed at the mile, and ran the last seven furlongs in Imin 31 l-ssec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. Stageland (F. H. Skelton) recorded Imin 32 l-ssec for seven furlongs, the last half mile with Last Dip (N. Cowles) in 52 4-ssec, and the last three furlongs in 39 3-ssec. Golden Vanity (G. W. Mein) followed over seven furlongs in Imin 30 3-ssec, the last three furlongs in 38sec. She has been racing solidly and is a place prospect at least in the Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara. Charlborough (L. Clark) led Coseta (J. Kerkvliet) over the last three of seven furlongs, recorded Imin 31sec for the distance and 51 4-ssec for the last half mile. Hamadan and Sirtax followed in Imin 32sec, the last three in 40 4-ssec, and Benefice and Warm Up recorded Imin 31sec, after a brisk opening three in 37sec. Water Deer was one of the best over shorter sprint distances. Ridden by A. H. East-

wood. Water Deer cleared out from Starless (G, W. Mein) and Rival (C. T. Wilson) to finish six furlongs with a lead of four lengths in Imin 16 3- the last four taking 51 4Gingerbread (W. H. Beck) sprinted six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec, the final three in 39' 4-ssec. She appears to have thrived on recent racing and travelling, and will be one of the improvers in the Peninsula Handicap at Motukarara. She was fifth at Wingatui on Saturday in only her second start on her present campaign. The stablemates, Monograph (E. G. Low) and Ibn (A. J. Stokes) ran half a mile on terms in 51 3-ssec, the final three in 37sec. They are bracketed in the Kinloch Handicap, second leg of the Banks Peninsula T.A.B. double. Alberta (G. Gullery), Red Chips (E. G. Low), and New Mint( D. Tucker) finished five furlongs on terms in Imin ssec after running the opening two in 27 4-ssec. Gold Shower ( F. H. Skelton) was never near full stretch while running seven furlongs in Imin 37 l-ssec, but was allowed to quicken for the last three In 39 3-ssec. Waitohi (G. Gullery) dashed in from the three furlongs in 36 2-ssec. Barcape (N. Cowles) recorded 39 3-ssec.
