CONTRACTS PLACED
Maraetai II Project (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 28. Turbine and generator contracts have been placed with European manufacturers for the Maraetai II project, the Minister of Electricity (Mr Shand) announced today. The turbine supplier will be Nydquist and Holm, of Sweden, and Siemens, of Western Germany, will supply the five 40,000 kva generators. For the five 50,000 h.p. turbines, tenders were received from firms in 11 different countries, and prices ranged from about £350,000 to nearly £700,000. Tenders for the generators were also received from firms in 11 different countries, and the prices ranged from about £600,000 to £1 million.
