TO COMPETE IN BRISBANE
Square Dancers From N.Z.
About 20 Christchurch square dancers will fly to Brisbane on March 26 to take part in the Australian national square dance convention.
The eighth national roundup will be held on March 25 in the Brisbane City Hall with dancers attending from Christchurch, Dunedin, the United States, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. It is expected that in all 800 dancers will attend. The New Zealand dancers will be accompanied by Mr A. Shepherd, of Christchurch, who will be guest caller and speaker at the convention. The Christchurch dancers will spend five days in Sydney with a number of Sydney square dance clubs before returning on April 2.
The Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council last evening recorded regret at the death of Mr F. H. Wright, a former member of the council and of the Christchurch West and Mairehau High School boards.
