Ashburton Although one match remains to be played in the Ashburton senior cricket competition, Methven cannot be beaten for the championship. It has a lead of nearly 20 points from Tekau. Both Methven and Tekau scored outright wins in the matches which ended on Saturday, while Technical scored a first innings win. A feature of the play was D. Stark’s 100 not out for Methven to give Methven a sound first innings lead on its way to outright victory against Old Boys. Scores: Methven 242 (Stark 100 not out) and 88/3 (S. Goodwin 44) beat Old Boys 168 and 155/5 dec. (B. Tutty 46, P. Zouch 29, L. GlanviHe 3/37) by 7 wickets. Technical 223/9 dec. (S. Hooper 69, R. Hayes 36, B. White 33; D. Bruce 4/47, L. Knowles 4/44, D. Back 3/32), by nine wickets. Peninsula With its two medium-pacers, B. Neal and W. Newton, taking all 10 wickets, Kaituna made sure of winning the Banks Peninsula’s Kinloch Cup with its first innings win over United on Saturday. Neal, medium-pace, and Newton, slightly faster, quickly ran through United, which fell only 18 runs short of its opponents’ 132 for three declared. An unbeaten century by the right-hander, D. McPhail, gave Wainui its first first innings win of the season, and in the other match Little River fell cheaply before the accurate left-arm seamers of R. Inwood (Le Bons), who bowled five of his seven victims. Only one round of matches remains. Points. —Kaituna 96, United 89, Little River 85, Le Bons 82, Akaroa 64, Wainui 40. Scores:— Le Bons 171 (P. Ellesmere A fine all-round performance by the opening batsman and leg spin bowler, J. Meyer, helped Weedons to a first innings win over Lincoln when the second round of Ellesmere competition matches for the P. V. Bailey Memorial Cup was played on Saturday. Meyer’s forcefulness in front

of the wicket was in evidence throughout his innings, which included three sixes. He later took 3/42 in Weedon’s best display of the season. The team has received 10 of its 22 points from defaults.

Southbridge's suspect batting succumbed to Irwell, which scored only 114 for one wicket before declaring. Dunsandel dwelt too long over its first innings and drew its match with the competition leader, Leeston. Points. —Leeston 32, Irwell 26, Lincoln 22, Weedons 22, Dunsandel 17, Southbridge 7.
