WELLINGTON, February 27. Many improvements could be made in the United Kingdom, as well as in New Zealand, to speed up the turnround of shipping, the chairman of the Meat Board (Sir John Ormond) said today. He was commenting on remarks made by Mr Edmund Vestey, a director of the Blue Star Line, who said delays in New Zealand seemed to be getting “worse and worse.” Sir John Ormond said the organisation of transport and types of ships used were important factors in reducing turn-round time.
“A lot of these problems are largely in the hands of the shipowners themselves,” he said.
“I don’t believe they have faced up quickly enough to major changes in the industry coming about through improved handling, storing and general efficiency.
