Girl Found Forgers
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CARLTONVILLE (South Africa).
An 18-year-old shop assistant, Miss Martie Nel, unmasked a gang of forgers because she did not like the feel of a 10-rand note handed to her by an African woman shopper. She looked more closely at the note and saw that the ink was smudged and had an oily smell. She pretended to fetch change but took the note to the shop manager, who agreed that it was a forgery. The woman shopper was arrested.
Within a day, a gang of forgers led by white men was rounded up, and Miss Nel received awards from both the police and her employers.
