Catches In N.I. Fishing Contest

Mr A. Lambert of Whangarei, made one of the most meritorious catches in the New Zealand big-game fishing contest which started on Saturday.
Although he was out after tuna, Mr Lambert landed a 2141 b striped marlin on 801 b line. With the bonus percentage for light tackle the marlin gave his launch, Patricia, 321 points in the contest. However, Patricia is only fifth in the billfish and shark section.
The Kawau Island launches Jane S and Quo Vadis are at present top in their respective sections. A hammerhead shark of 3551 b caught by Mr A. Ross, of Auckland, on 801 b line on Saturday gave the Jane S top place in the billfish and shark section. Mrs S. Tombleson, of Morrinsville, weighed in the biggest fish. It was a 4031 b thresher shark caught on 1301 b line in Tauranga waters. Leading positions are:—
Billfish and shark section: Jane S (Kawau Island), 561.5 points; Rarangi (Tauranga), 403; Tuatahi (Whangaroa), 423. Yellowfin and tuna section:
Quo Vadis (Kawau Island), 213 points; Saltaire (Kawau Island), 171; Waiomo (Kawau Island), 148.6.
