BIG MARLIN CAUGHT

A fisherman struggled for three hours and a half to hold a 2241 b striped marlin on a light snapper rod and 301 b line at Whakatane on Saturday. He is Mr V. Timbs, a retired Whakatane butcher Mr Timbs was c<,mooting in the deep-sea fishing contest held to mark the opening of the Whakatane Big Game Fishing Club.
Fishing for tuna with a feather lure from his 16ft plywood boat near Whale Island, Mr Timbs hooked the marlin at 2.45 p.m. He finally boated th fish at 6.15 p.m.
