MOFFAT CUP YACHTING
(N.Z. Press Association) TIMARU. Snatching the lead in the last leg of the second triangle, Bay of Plenty romped away from Hawke’s Bay to win the first Moffat Cup yachting race by 3sec at Timaru yesterday. South Canterbury came in third, with Otago, Auckland, Wellington, Taranaki, Southland, and Manakau following in that order.
The race started in a light south-easterly breeze, which gradually freshened. Hawke’s Bay was first from the line, holding the lead for two rounds until being overtaken by Bay of Plenty. The second race followed the pattern of the first, with Bay of Plenty again snatching the lead in the last stages.
