VIETNAM AID
Talks On Method (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said tonight the Government had begun consultations with Britain, Australia and Malaysia over the possibility of increasing New Zealand’s military contribution to South Vietnam. He said the Cabinet had considered alternative methods in which New Zealand’s military aid could be increased and had decided on priorities. Mr Holyoake said these priorities necessitated consultation with the Governments of Britain, Australia and Malayasia all partners with New Zealand in the Commonwealth Strategic Reserve. Asked if the consultations included reference to the possible redeployment of infantry from the Ist Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment serving in Malaysia with the reserve, he replied: “No comment.”
