Believed Drowned
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, Feb. 27. A truck driver is believed to have drowned in the Waikato river near the Horotiu bridge, five miles from Hamilton yesterday. He was
Kingi Rihia, aged 21, single of Higgins road, Frankton.
He disappeared while swimming with a cousin, Mr B. Bartin, who made an unsuccessful attempt to drag him to the bank after seeing him in trouble.
“I got him under the chin, but when I went to bring him in he slipped out of my hands,” Mr Bartin said.
The police were notified and four frogmen and a boat were quickly on the scene. Mr Rihia disappeared just after 11 a.m., but no trace of him had been found late in the afternoon, when the search was called off for the day.
