McCormacks Bay
Sir,—May I suggest that the McCormacks bay aquatic playground project be selffinancing. Only then will this and other desirable projects have any chance of fruition. The town hall is an example of a project relying bn ratepayers’ funds. The McCormacks bay development and
Estuary development can become self-financing by including in the schemes, building sections, some of which can be sold to defray capital cost and the remainder leased to cover maintenance cost. Empowering acts can be modified to allow land sales, an example being the Nelson marina project. The sections can be sited where they do not detract from the over-all scheme which, instead of being just a dream, can become a reality. Opponents to the sale of land for the financing of the developments are often those who live adjacent to the development—and also those asking loudest for the city to meet the full cost. Yours, etc.,
RATEPAYER. February 27, 1967.
Sir,—l noticed in this morning’s issue of “The Press” a plan submitted by Mr Ryan and Mr Blogg to develop McCormack’s bay as a water playing area. I think this is a very good idea and I hope they have success. The City Council will have to look well ahead and provide a large parking area for motor traffic.—Yours, etc., INTERESTED.
