Water Supply Plans For Springston Approved

At its meeting last week the Ellesmere County Council approved plans prepared by its assistant-engineer (Mr A. Van Rooyen) for a proposed water supply for Springston. If they are accepted by the ratepayers, authority will be sought to the raising of a loan. Another matter concerning the water supply at Coe’s Eord was mentioned by the council's health inspector (Mr V. M. Chailies), who said that check samples taken from the well there had indicated a light pollution and further investigations were to be made to trace possible sources of contamination. It was reported that recently a Transport Department traffic engineer and the council’s traffic officer had made a survey of a number of curves on county roads, using the slide thrust gauge, to find out the advisory speed at wiucn to take bends or curves with comfort and safety. The results were set out in detail and it was decided to ask the Automobile Association to erect appropriate signs. In the last year 11 persons had lost their lives through motor accidents within the county, said the traffic officer (Mr B. Crook), of these three had been children under the age of five years. In the same period 27 persons had been injured. During 1 December and January 43 persons had taken the practi- ! cal test for drivers’ licences, 30 being successful. In the theory test 34 had passed and one had failed. A total of 63 building per- 1 mils had been issued said the ' assistant building inspector (Mr G. M. Doyle).

Details of road sealing done in various parts of the county were given by the engineer (Mr P. Macfarlane).
