Strait Crossing

Two young Blenheim men, Messrs M. Harris and A. Henshaw, crossed Cook Strait in lift fibreglass kyaks bn Saturday. They left Wellington Head in the Marlborough Sounds at 8.50 a.m. and arrived at Cape Terawhiti at 1.30 p.m. They intended landing at Island Bay but were prevented from doing so by the strong current.

They were piloted across the strait by Mr G. Perano. During the trip the men ate cheese, cold meat and dates and drank glucose and orange juice mixed with water.

Neither is a stranger to canoeing. They have travelled down the Buller, Wairau and Motueka rivers. They now plan to cross Foveaux Strait by kyak.
