RADAR FOR S. AFRICA

Maritime Defence (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) STELLENBOSCH, (South Africa) Feb. 23. South Africa will install a new maritime radar defence system which will cover her coasts from south-west Africa to Natal, the Defence Minister Mr P. W. Botha said in Stellenbosch yesterday. Mr Botha said that the system would be capable of pinpointing the position of ships to within 25 yards. Mr Botha said that the system, British Decca, costing six million rand, would aid the patrolling of South Africa’s sea reaches and be of incalculable value in time of war.
