“TRIPLE CROWN”

Scots Lose Rugby (N.Z.P.A. -Reuter—Copyright) EDINBURGH. Scotland’s hopes of winning the Rugby “triple crown” for the first time since 1938 disappeared when it lost a rugged match to Ireland at Edinburgh on Saturday. Ireland won by five points (a converted try) to three (a penalty goal) to inflict the first defeat of the season on the Scots, who had previously beaten Wales, France and Australia.

After a scoreless first half, N. Murphy scored a try for Ireland, converted by T. Kiernan. S. Wilson kicked Scotland’s penalty goal. France overcame the hoodoo which had marked its appearance at Twickenham when it deservedly beat England, 16-12 on Saturday. It was France’s first win at Twickenham for 12 years. All the scoring came in the first 47 minutes. Tries for France were scored by B. Duprat and C. Dourthe, and G. Camberabero converted both and also dropped a goal and kicked a penalty. R. Hosen kicked three penalties and J. Finlan dropped a goal for England.
