TWO-HOUR ORDEAL

Fishermen In Sea

(N.Z. Press Association)

NELSON, Feb. 26.

A two-hour ordeal in Tasman Bay ended for two Nelson commercial fishermen when the trawler Sea Harvester II rescued them this afternoon. The fishermen, Mr A. P. Harley, and his 21-year-old son, Rex, were trawling for shellfish at 2 p.m. in Mr Harley’s launch, Awatea, about five miles from Nelson, when the boat rolled over and sank.

A strong wind was blowing and a fair sea running. Both men were flung into the water and the 30ft boat sank immediately. They supported themselves for two hours with the aid of wooden fish boxes and an empty gas cylinder. About 4 p.m. they saw the Sea Harvester II approaching and shouted and waved to it. They were picked up and brought to Nelson, shaken but uninjured.
