WELLINGTON, February 24. New Zealand had a population of 2,676,919 on census night, March 22, 1966, the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker) announced today. At the last census, in 1961, the population was 2,414,984. The latest figure represents an increase of 10.8 per cent Of the total, 1,343,743 were males and 1,333,176 females. The Maori population—201,159—jumped 20.4 per cent in the five-year period, from 167,086. The population of Christ-
church was 247,248, 26,738 more than the last census total 1 of 220,510.
