NEW Y.W.C.A. HOSTEL
Plans for the new £200,000 Young Women’s Christian Association’s building in Christchurch were still being prepared and it was hoped building would begin in about a year, the general secretary of the association (Mrs F. W. Gunz) said this week. The building, which will accommodate about 100 girls, will be built behind the present Y.W.C.A. hostel in Madras street.
Ten of the 11 floors will be used for bedrooms and the ground floor will contain communal rooms.
Mrs Gunz said that it was hoped to extend the hostel from Gresson’s lane through to Gloucester street.
