Ryan Loses Appeal
C.V Z Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 23.
Ronald Joseph Ryan today lost his last legal bid for life. Now only an act of clemency can save him from being hanged in Melbourne’s Pentridge Gaol.
The last act of the legal battle ended when the judicial committee of the Privy Council refused to grant him special leave to appeal against his conviction for the murder of a prison warder in Melbourne.
If Ryan is hanged—and only the Victorian premier seems able to save him—it will be the first execution in the State for 16 years.
