STRIKE TALKS

Gunter Moves (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Jan. 24. The Labour Minister, Mr Ray Gunter, last night Intervened in a strike of 57 men which has led to 20,000 ear workers being laid off and has threatened the jobs of several thousand more.

The 57 men work for a company supplying components to British Motor Corporation factories.

Their strike, over a pay claim, has halted production of Austin and Morris Minicars and the 1100 models. As a result about 20,000 B.M.C. workers have been told not to report for work and tonight the B.M.C. warned that there will be no work for several thousand more if the strike continued.

Mi- Gunter called the union leaders in for a 90-minute talk after which the leaders said they would try to arrange discussions with management representatives today.
