15 Horses Qualify

Fifteen pacers qualified to start at totalisator meetings at trials held by the Mid-Can-terbury Owners and Breeders’ Association at Ashburton yesterday. The most impressive winner was Cheeky, a three-year-. old gelded son of Forward and Squire’s Lady, which will race for Mr W. R. Cruickshank and his Tinwald trainer, D. L. McGregor. Cheeky, a rangy type of youngster, won the fifth and final heat in the smart time of 3min 23 2-ssec.

The only heat in which the first four place-getters failed to pace the mile and a half in the required 4min 28sec was the fourth heat.

Third Heat.—ANNAVELLA It D. G. Jones 1; THUNDERWISE It R. Young 2; BRIGADE FOLLY It J. B. Noble 3: ZULITA It W. R. Butt 4. Ten started. Length, half a length, three lengths. Times—3:27 3-5, 3:27 4-5. 3:28, 3:28 4-5.
