Professionals To Play At Canterbury Court
The tennis professionals, F. S. Stolle, P. G. Gonzales, R. D. Ralston, and R. A Laver, will play their Christchurch tournament at
Canterbury Court on the night of February 21.
The Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s management committee decided this at a meeting last evening.
The chairman (Mr M. C. Healey) said that he had tentatively booked Canterbury Court for that night for about £6O. “There is permannt seating there for up to about 1500 people," he said.
Mr T. Withers suggested a Wednesday exhibition at Wilding Park for children who could
be admitted at a reduced rate. The secretary (Mr B. W. Crofts) said that the players would have a tight schedule, and it was unlikely that they could give exhibitions on two days.
Mr Healey’s motion, that a morning coaching session for juniors be investigated with the N.Z.L.T.A., was carried.
1968 Championships The committee confirmed the secretary’s action in applying for the 1968 national senior and under-19 championships. The N.Z.L.T.A. reported that Its committee was “happy to approve this application, subjec to the fact that the under-19 tournament as part of this event was still under trial."
