Heavy Rain At Pass

Nearly three inches of rain fell at Arthur’s Pass in six hours to 10.30 p.m. yesterday, and 4.75 inches had fallen since 9 a.m., the chief engineer of the North Canterbury Catchment Board (Mr E. B. Dalmer) said last evening. The Waimakariri river was in fresh only at the Oxford gorge bridge, said Mr Dalmer. It was about 2ft above normal. It was still raining heavily at Arthur’s Pass late last evening. Up till 9 a.m. yesterday nearly two inches of rain had fallen at Arthur’s Pass, making a total in the last two days of about 6.75 inches.
